This single is a tribute to Thelonious Monk featuring three Monk inspired tunes from the Variations in Time: A Jazz Perspective compilation by Andy Williams.
The title track "Monk Swing" by Montreal MCs Karma & Lotus swings with an off-kilter flow of heavy piano, raw rhymes, and ear-catching tension.
Vibes and saxophone pop playfully on the upbeat "Ra-Monk" by Juno award-winning Eval Manigat, reminiscent of the jazzy Caribbean of greats Ernest Ranglin and Monty Alexander.
Clifton Joseph, contributor of "A Chant for Monk" is a dub poet who needs no introduction. Part of a rich tradition that has includes Langston Hughes, Linton Kwesi and Lillian Allen, Andy best remembers Clifton for an unforgettable Montreal performance with the Last Poets that left the audience gasping for more.
